Both of my sons take classes here twice a week and in their words "it's awesome!!" Master Lindamood is more than patient with my 6 year old who is very easily distracted! He and my 14 year old are both having a great time learning their taekwondo movements while getting exercise and learning how to be respectful! It's a win win for everyone!

Martial Arts Classes to help you lose weight!

Today, I want to tell you about why taking one of our Adult Martial Arts classes can help you shed excess weight.

Let’s face it, as we get older, it gets more difficult to lose weight. Our metabolisms get slower. Also, many adults have sedentary jobs. We’re not getting the kind of incidental exercise that we would if we were on our feet all day or doing physical labor.

That’s why it’s important to get our bodies moving regularly. Fitness guidelines usually recommend 30 to 60 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a minimum of three times a week. Without exercise, we pack on pounds because we’re simply not burning enough calories.

Speaking of calories, that’s really what it boils down to. If you take in more calories than you burn, you’ll gain weight. If you burn more than you consume, you’ll lose weight. Our martial arts classes are great for burning calories. These are intense workouts that require a lot of energy!

The other weight loss element of studying martial arts is building muscle. You see, muscle takes up less space than fat and it weighs more than fat. But, increasing your muscle mass also helps your body burn calories. It requires more energy to maintain a pound of muscle than it does a pound of fat.

I’ve seen people come into who wanted to lose a few pounds and some who needed to lose a lot of weight. The ones who stuck with it did lose weight – and you can too if that’s a goal of yours.
