Discipline is a skill learned over time!
You know now that taking a martial arts class at Lindamood’s Martial Arts can help you learn to focus and improve your performance at work. Now I want to tell you about another core skill – one of the basic tenets of martial arts.
I’m talking about discipline. Specifically, self-discipline. I once read a definition of discipline that said it was “anything you do today that your future self would thank you for.” I like that because it underscores one of my favorite things about martial arts.
Discipline is a core tenet of martial arts because it requires discipline to learn skills, master them, and earn new belts and stripes. We focus a lot on discipline in our kids’ martial arts classes because most children need to be taught how to discipline themselves.
The thing is, that’s true of adults too. Some of us can discipline ourselves in one area but not in another. For example, someone who’s a total rock star at work might struggle with overeating at home. They’re disciplined on the one hand and undisciplined on the other.
When you study martial arts with us, you’ll learn that discipline is a mindset. Once you learn it – and truly master it – it will carry over into other areas of your life. You’ll understand that the decisions you make today will affect the quality of your life tomorrow. And, you’ll want to make the right decisions!
Discipline is a skill that’s learned over time. As you continue to take classes, you’ll see your ability to discipline yourself becoming stronger. Before long, you’ll find that self-discipline is part of who you are – and that can have a positive impact on every aspect of your life.
Until next time,
